The Officer that I interviewed was Officer Phil. Yoshikawa. He is originally from Fresno CA, but he now lives in Shafter, CA where he works with the Shafter police department. Officer Yoshikawa didn’t always know that he wanted to work with law enforcement he worked many other jobs before. Officer Yoshikawa had a manager at one of his jobs that told him to go to school in hopes of getting a better life, every day he told him until he finally went. He changed his major three times until he stayed with sociology as his major. He then went on to work with Shafter police department as a young rookie and he’s never left, or thought about leaving any time soon. He has been with the Shafter Police Department for about 19 years going on 20 years now. Officer Yoshikawa deals with many issues on a daily, but he has lately seen an increase with officers being called out to domestic abuse …show more content…
He doesn’t agree with a lot of the changes that are being put in place. When the department has new rules that are being implemented most of the department fallows through “you will always get that one guy that won’t” officer Yoshikawa said, but if it’s a rule they need to start fallowing it. The department in Shafter has a big deal with Racial Profiling. They do not accept any form or type of biased based policing. If any officer is caught Racial Profiling there will be consequences. The Police Department see’s a lot of volunteer work with in their community. They didn’t have to worry about bringing in a crowd, because all the help they got, but as of late the group of volunteers that they were getting is starting to get smaller. I asked him if he that it was getting smaller, because it’s just a small town, but he thinks it has to do with people just working more so any free time they don’t volunteer they just stay home or stay in with their

In worst case scenarios, unjust racial profiling results in death of one of the engaged parties, predominantly at the expense of the “perpetrator”. Notable cases of racial profiling against African-Americans include that of Jonny Gammage in 1995, Amadou Diollo in 1997, and the countrywide case of Trayvon Martin in 2012. “All 3 cases and more resulted in the death of the victim with little or no retribution for the acts of the officers. By not reprimanding these guilty officers, the act of racial profiling continues. In addition, a study in Arizona shows that during 2006-2007, the state highway patrol was significantly more likely to stop African Americans and Hispanics than Whites on all the highways studied, while Native Americans and persons of Middle Eastern descent were more likely to be stopped on nearly all the highways studied.…

Ride Along During and after my experience, I realized how similar and accurate the material learned in class was to what police officer experience in a typical day. I was able to participate in the Fullerton police ride along program, on April 8th from 10am-6pm, under Officer Lopez’s shift. Before arriving for the scheduled ride along, one needs to submit a waiver form. The form was not available online or the community service bureau not opened 24 hours, this created a delay in setting up the ride along.…

Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a police officer or a law enforcement official. When my childhood home was burgled, the first responders’ priority was to ensure that my family and I were safe. My experience with law enforcement had a positive impact on my life because of the officers’ devotion and dedication to public service and safety. I made an effort to begin devoting my life to public service and be a part of something greater than myself through enlisting in the Oklahoma Army National Guard and working as a Security Officer. I wish to continue with my endeavors in the field of law enforcement.…

Law Enforcement Interview Police officers are seen under the radar in everyday life. By under the radar I mean, we notice them driving around town, or when we are slamming on our brakes passing them going twenty miles over the speed limit on the interstate, or when we all pretend to be perfect drivers when we notice them trailing us from our rear view mirrors. What we don’t notice is who the police officer that’s giving us a ticket is, or what their ranking is or how well trained or educated they are. Police officers are easily disliked by the public because of their jobs of handing out tickets, or making necessary arrests but all they’re trying to do is keep the community safe.…

The police background check should be limited to information that is relevant to suitability for the position or work in question. The information about the individual is subject to Canada’s privacy laws and the organization must use it appropriately and keep it confidential. There are a lot of things that the public does not see that police officers see on a regular basis. When I was thinking about if having some diversity on the police would always help, I was slightly wrong. While there are a lot of factors that having a diverse police force can help such as it made some people more willing to take to other members of the same race because they feel they have more of a connection. But unfortunately, it can also show that it leads to some distrust between some groups of people. There were a couple instances that we talked about that once a person was detained and they were not willing to talk to an officer of a different race they would bring in an officer of the same race to see if that would help any at all.…

In an article titled “The Police Were Created to Control Working Class and Poor People, Not ‘Serve and protect’’ by Sam Mitrani the editor states that police officers were never made to serve and protect the population. They were not made to stop crime or promote justice. Instead, Ms. Mitrani states that around the nineteenth century “police officers” were made to protect the new age of wage-labor from the so called threat of the working class. Then she continues on to give evidence of such cases but in the same sense “police officers” had a choice on where or not they wanted to hold such a title. The evolution and meaning of a police officer has changed since the 19th century.…
