I still remember how scared I was when I stepped in to the yellow foot prints when I got off the bus at RTC Great Lakes in 2004. The thought of becoming an officer never even crossed my mind because I always felt that I wasn’t smart enough, tough enough, or big enough. I was afraid to fail because I never stepped outside of my comfort zone. I can now say with certain conviction that it was the Navy, in particular two chiefs that help push me beyond my own expectations. This is what I feel I have to offer as an officer in the United States Navy. Setting a high personal expectations and instilling it into your own subordinates is what a good leader does. A good leader is not the smartest person in the room; they know how to influence an efficient team that works well together to achieve the objective. These are all examples of what I have learned from the Navy and what I know I am capable of while leading sailors in the most advanced Navy the world has ever seen. In my 8 and half years of active duty, there were only two chiefs that really looked out for his people. …show more content…
Achieving an associates in mathematics, graduating with a 3.76 gpa from Cuyamaca College and currently on track to a B.S. in Chemical Engineering currently with a 3.0 gpa. I have also just recently been selected by the members of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers to participate in UC San Diego’s inaugural projects group. I have been selected to provide my technical abilities to building a scaled down water purifier that will turn salt water in to drinkable water by use of vapor compression. The research and development will be used to help provide access to drinkable water to drought stricken areas that have limited recourses and funds to develop such systems. This is project is important to me because it can have a global impact that could help mitigate a major issue in our
