Over 90 percent of the people that are convicted of felonies give up the right to be judged by a jury of his or her peers once they proceed to plead guilty. In the majority of the cases, these people plead guilty for something in exchange. Plea bargaining is an arrangement between a prosecutor and a defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser charge in the expectation of a lesser punishment. This casually happens when the defendant sees no other option by the prosecutor, but to plead guilty. This is very important because it is a necessary component in the criminal justice system, if it wasn’t for plea bargains, courts would be overcrowded and overwhelmed that they would be actually be forced to shut down.…

Notably in the United States, another way to oppress individuals, especially minorities is through the criminal justice system. The effects of the incarceration on this particular group is felt within the African American community; these individuals have adapted the mind set of not being able to trust anyone, especially the law since they are always targeted by police officers, who in actuality are given the power to protect and serve. African Americans’ not having the ability to fall back on the police force exemplifies why the police department needs to be redeveloped. Being that this is the career path that I wish to follow, my expectations that the police department should engage in- will be the policies.…
There is a value in developing sexual offender typologies. Typologies are also known as "classification schemes, that utilize offenders' characteristics and/ or victim-choice information to outline a framework for analysis" (Terry, 2013, p. 93). It helps us become aware of the circumstances and characteristics surrounding the offender and what influences their behavior, in order for us to control this behavior in the future by planning a proper and appropriate treatment intervention and effective supervision. There are various existing typologies for both male and female sex offenders.…

Introduction: Offender profiling can be defined as making predictions about offender’s characteristics from the way they behaved during a crime (Davies & Beech, 2012). Profiling techniques can be unified with police forces to help elicit and prioritise suspects and may predict what an offender may do next (Canter & Youngs, 2009). However, it’s important to assess the reliability of such psychological procedures as they are frequently applied to serious and violent forms of crime…
