Janay was a target for victim blaming. Comments and questions were rising about the issue, “Why did she not leave the situation, is it because of the money or who he is. It was being publicized that she stayed with him for the wrong reasons, but this is all a misconception according to the Rices. Janay states in an interview that “I am not taking the light off of anything that he did, but he is human and humans make mistakes”. She claims he is turning things around and to redeem himself and do the right things. Janay Rice was being bashed from the media, public, etc. for not leaving the situation, this is known as victim blaming.
Ray Rice never openly accused Janay Palmer of attacking him, he completely took responsible and owned up to his mistake. Even though Ray Rice never accused his financee of the violence, the couple both stated that they were fighting a lot and this could have been the result of the attack. Members of the Men’s Rights Movement argued that Rice was simply defending himself against his finacee whom attacked him first. It was also argued that it wasn’t him that knocked her out, but her hitting the rail of the elevator. They claim he did not deserve to lose his football contract
