The purpose of the experiment was to determine whether or not Diet. Dr Choice, the off brand equivalent of Diet Dr. Pepper, affects the growth of an organism, and at what dosage said effect would occur at. During the experiment radish seeds are exposed to varying dosages of Diet Dr. Pepper in order to determine how an organism would to varying amounts of exposure to the chemicals within Diet Dr. Pepper. Due to lab restraints the organism used during this experiment was radish seeds due to their quick germination period making the, the ideal test subject for a classroom setting with limited time and resources. The substance tested within this experiment was Diet Dr. Choice because it is the off brand equivalent of Diet Dr. Pepper and contains the same levels of the chemicals caffeine and aspartame as the the actual brand named …show more content…
This chemical is believed by many scientists to be a carcinogen, meaning that it either causes cancer to form or it aids in the development of cancer (American Cancer Society, 2014). In 2006 and 2007 at the Cesare Maltoni Cancer Research an experiment was conducted to determine whether or not the ingestion APM (aspartame) would result in the occurrence of cancer, which would indicate that APM is a carcinogen. This experiment was conducted on Sprague Dawley rats rats throughout their lifespan and exposure began when the rats were eight weeks old. The data collected showed a statistically significant dose-related increase incidence of cancer among both male and female rats when compared to the control subjects who not exposed to APM (Soffritti, Padovani, Tibaldi, Falcioni, Manservisi, and Belpoggi, 2014). This indicates that APM is carcinogen and therefore at high dosages can have a detrimental effect on the overall health of an organism, while at lower dosages elicit little to no response from the

This experiment was done to examine if the number of seeds used in a specific area would affect the growth process using two pots (Control, Experiment). Control pot had two Pinto beans, while the Experiment pot had four seeds. Both pots were placed in the same room with same amount of water supply and light.…

Note that the four hormones have different concentrations. In order for this experiment to be valid, the amount of hormone exposed to each corn seed must be equivalent. It was decided that each hormone treatment would include a hormone paired with 6 mL of water. The control would be treated with 6 mL of water alone. For starters, it is important to convert the concentration of ABA into g/L.…

Each lab table was responsible for growing a pea plant. Nine pea plants were planted in total. The pea plants were separated into three groups. The first group was without any auxin, the second group had 500 ppm of auxin, and the last group had 5,000 ppm of auxin. The growth of the pea plants were recorded and ranked using a Wilcoxon test to determine which peas showed significant growth.…

For this experiment my hypothesis was correct. The control petri dish germinated nine out of ten radish seeds, and the acid rain petri dish germinated zero out of ten radish seeds. For the second experiment, I said in my hypothesis was that both sets of plants, that were given the acid rain solutions, would underperform compared to the control; and the set of plants given the acid rain solution with a pH of three would underperform the control, as well as, the set of plants given and acid rain solution with a pH of five. For this experiment my hypothesis was half correct. Group B, with the acid rain solution with a pH of three, underperformed both group C, with the acid rain solution with a pH of five, and group A, the control.…

Experiment: Interspecific Competition (Buckwheat v. Oats) I. Introduction Understanding relationships between organisms is crucial to the study of ecology. Within the study of organism relationships, there exist many types of ecological competitions. The focus of our lab experiment will be on interspecific competition. Interspecific competition is best defined as the competition between individuals of different species (Brooker et al 2014). The concept of interspecific competition is important as it is thought to be a driving force behind ecological character displacement, or the change in morphology of a species in order to promote coexistence among other interacting species (Abrams 2015).…

In this experiment, the problem that was being investigated was the effect of Miracle Gro on the germination of lentil seeds over a period of three days. This problem was investigated in the interest of Ms. Semaan and her past experiences with lentils. She and her family had previously grown lentil seeds seasonally and compared them to her relatives’ seeds in terms of growth and height. More often than not, the relatives’ lentils grew better than those of Ms. Semaan and her family, and she had wanted to know the reason why these results had occurred.…

My results were random, meaning there was no set pattern of the ‘With’ groups germinating to a further extent compared to the ‘Without’ groups. Conversely, the ‘Without’ groups didn’t germinate more than the ‘With’ groups in every trial either. The rate at which my data supported my Null hypothesis is strong. This means that due to the nonspecific pattern of germination in the seeds, my collected results supported exactly what my Null hypothesis set out to test. I have concluded that oil has no effect on the rate of germination of…

The experiment consisted of planting two group of tomato seeds provided, one group has been subjected to the extreme cold and low pressure while the other group consists of regular seeds. The initial weeks were uneventful, however, complications soon appeared, namely, the stems became slender, thereby causing the plant to droop. While solving the problems, I found an effective strategy for future problems, which is observe and gather data, research and brainstorm for likely causes, then applying the most probable solutions and monitor progress.…

Catalase, is an enzyme where hydrogen peroxide is broken down to water and oxygen ; which causes a response. Found in a lot organisms that live in the surrounding of oxygen, catalase can fend off the buildup and protects cellular organs from damage by peroxide, which is always produced by many reactions. The catalase enzyme is critically important to are health, it can be found in nearly every living organism exposed to oxygen. In the catalase lab we measured the amount of catalase in each ingredient by combining each ingredient with hydrogen peroxide and sticking into a test tube emerged under water to measure the amount of oxygen.…
