Have you ever had a person in your life that you could not leave alone, but it was your responsibility to take care of her? That is the story of George and Lennie from John Steinbeck, “Of Mice and Men”. This novel is based on a realistic literature that instead of romanticism and it`s final endings, portraits everyday living of ordinary people. In all honestly, it represents dreams that are crashes, people dying and other events. Therefore, themes such as loneliness, friendship, and innocence are very clear in this novel.

Lennie was a men who deeply loved to pet puppies and rabbits, but as he killed most of the animals he ever had, George would not let him keep or get any other animal. Altogether, Lennie then decided to do everything possible so that he could gain George`s confidence and he would be able to have animals to pet in their dream farm. Furthermore, Lennie had adopted a dog, but suddenly after George left with the other men Lennie tried to pet the puppy; unluckily killing the dog. George said in the book, “He stroked the pup again. “You wasn`t big enough,” he said. “They tol` me and tol` me you wasn`t. I di`n`t know you`d get killed so easy.” Lennie always felt heartbroken with his unexpected actions because he loved very much to pet the soft animals. Besides, when Curley`s wife came over to have a talk with Lennie, he put his hands over her head to “pet” her hair but soon when he notices, he had killed her with his strength and again he became disappointed with himself. So, people who eventually are lonely are constantly seeking to find someone to share their experiences, life stories and to have someone by our side while friendship, in some cases, means we have to make tough decisions for our loved ones. Otherwise, the idea of innocence passed through this novel is that we have actions that are not our intention. This novel was discouraging seeing that an men killed his best friend, but it is a truly experience for us to learn about the different types of literature and to be acknowledged of life`s
