There are many characters throughout literature who can be described as tragic heroes. Some memorable tragic heroes and characters throughout history are King Kong, Romeo and Juliet, and even Batman. Each tragic hero or character is normally a good person or thing, who is normally troubled or put against almost all odds. Batman is troubled and consistently in danger of being killed, Romeo and Juliet were forced to be torn apart from each other because of their last names and families. They are just a few examples of tragic heroes. Now this begs the question; who is the tragic hero in Of Mice and Men? Within the story Of Mice and Men, we have a very good set of characters to choose from and pick as our tragic hero. Some of these characters

Some examples that show that George is a real hero are how he is able to take care and tend to Lennie and also keep himself and others out of trouble. He’s also able to handle himself well in problematic situations, which is another characteristic of a hero. In this case, we can now consider George a hero, so what makes him a tragic hero? There are a few things that allow for George to be considered a tragic hero. One of the many traits that make George a tragic hero, is how he can easily handle a situation. If there is trouble afoot, George is willing to do plenty to stop a problem or fix an issue. Another characteristic George has is how he is able to take care of Lennie. He has to be able to take care of and handle Lennie while keeping himself and Lennie out of trouble, but he is also willing to lose anything to keep Lennie safe. These are just a couple of examples of how George Milton is a tragic hero. Obviously there are plenty of other tragic heroes, for example, Slim is willing to do anything to keep everyone safe. This even includes risking his own job in order to let George and Lennie keep theirs(Steinbeck, 64). Slim is just one example of the many tragic heroes in Of Mice and Men.
