George and Lennie are extensively contradictory of each other. George is small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp, strong features. He has small, strong hands, slender arms, and a thin and bony nose. (2) Lennie, on the other hand, is a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, and wide, sloping shoulders(2). George and Lennie’s body features contrast, as well as their personality. Anger, but understanding describes George’s personality. However, Lennie’s personality is described almost like a child. He is loyal and is innocent, likewise, mentally disabled (72). George demonstrates his exasperated personality when he yells at Lennie because Lennie never recalls anything that George says for him to do. George yells at Lennie and says that he would be better off without him and could be living his American dream if it were not for Lennie. Although George is irritated with Lennie, he understands that Lennie cannot help what he does, and felt ashamed about what he said (11). Lennie illustrates his loyalty to George when Crooks says, “Le’s say he wants to come back and can’t. S’pose he gets killed or hurt so he can’t come back.” (71). Lennie immediately stood up and defended George by asking “Who hurt George?” (72). Although they have different physical appearances and personalities, their opposites attract, allowing them to have a unique companionship. Lennie…

Some comparisons are clearer than others, but the ones that stand out the most are in the frustration between George (Of Mice and Men) and Charlie (Rain Man). During the film Rain Man, it shows many incidents where Charlie ends up yelling at Ray because he was doing something that he didn’t like or found, in his words, “retarded”. Also all throughout the novel Of Mice and Men it’s mentioned that Lennie is willing to go “up in (the) hills and live by (himself)” (Steinbeck 14) for Georges comfort; he knows how often George gets frustrated with his actions and is willing to leave so George can “live so easy” (Steinbeck 12). Similarity between the characters also stands out in tolerance the two “smarter” men have for their companions. Though at first Charlie has a different reason for trying to show great tolerance for Ray, it becomes more like the reason George is so tolerant with Lennie. Near the end of the film, Charlie starts genuinely caring for Ray and wants him around and understands more of why he has the freak outs and schedules like the way…

Lennie is first presented in a childlike manner; blindly loyal to George, continually makes the same omissions, has a deep-rooted sense of innocence, and is incapable of remembering his poor actions. Lennie’s forgetfulness also sheltered him from his substandard past, specifically the memory of a adolescent girl once claimed Lennie had raped her when he refused to remove his grip from her alluring, ruby dress. The most oblivious example of Lennie not having the capability to recall why George and he had left Weed, a few neighboring city’s from Solidad, is he would not be able to commentate all the hassle and turmoil he had caused when the young lassie claimed he had raped her. Conversely, Lennie’s memory loss often irritates George and many times George will lash out at Lennie almost as a mother does when her child doesn’t listen, but George always comes to the realization that Lennie had not chosen to be inadequate. Lennie’s innocence may have driven George maniacal, but it also protected Lennie from seeing evil intentions that have deceased the world, remembering past misfortunes, and served as a blessing through the first…

Of Mice and Men is a novel about two men; Lennie and George. They are traveling partners and they look out for each other. Lennie and George have a dream about getting a farm and “living off the fat of the land.” Lennie is especially ecstatic about tending the rabbits on their dream-farm and George constantly tells Lennie about the story of how they’ll live together and have a good life. Unfortunately, Lennie and George’s dream dissipates when Lennie’s strength gets the best of him and he accidentally kills Curley’s wife. Tragically, Lennie ends up being killed at the hands of his best friend; George. Although Dr. Sacreth argues that Of Mice and Men is a tragic novel and that George and Lennie deserve better than they get, he incorrectly argues that George and Lennie led limited lives, that their dreams were unachievable and the idea that pain is beauty.…
