The death of Lennie makes us feel even more sympathy for Lennie, as his death was not of his own wrong-doing. He has shown multiple times that he is unaware of his own brutal strength due to his childishness, mental impairment and naivety, therefore making a grave mistake and killing Curley’s Wife, causing his own death later in the novel. For example, when Lennie strokes the mice, but kill it because he uses excessive force. This then causes George to be mad at him and threaten that he would “sock” Lennie if he doesn’t throw away the mouse. We feel sympathy for Lennie because it is not his fault for killing the mice, it is because of his strength and power that he could have killed the mice, he did not do it on purpose. Then, because of his mental disability he could not learn his lesson and contain his strength, which leads to him killing the puppy and later even Curley’s Wife. These are all reasons why we feel sympathy for Lennie because of his actions and how he cannot contain his strength properly and requires full guidance, he is almost like a young child, who needs to be supervised and given guidance all the time.
