When Carlson shot Candy’s dog it made Candy think. He realized that he should have done it himself because it was his dog not Carlsons. Steinbeck had wrote “Candy turned over and looked for a moment at the gun before he turned back to the wall again” (53). This foreshadowing helped me realize that George had done the right thing because that was his best friend. If he didn't do it himself he would have regretted it like Candy. It is his responsibility to do it because if he wouldn't have done it he would be in pain like Candy
