Of Mice And Men Sadness Analysis

Sadness is what I feel when I read this book. The book Of Mice and Men was published in 1937. Steinbeck made us think with the way he wrote that George had done the right thing when he talked about the setting, foreshadowing and symbolism. First of all, the way that Steinbeck used the setting of the river helped me understand why George did what he did. For example he describes the river as “the water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling the yellow sand in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool” (1). I think that this is a good place that he did it because it is calm and a beautiful spot that Lennie liked. The river is the one place that brought Lennie happiness so George brought him there so he would be calm. It helped me understand why he had done what he did because he made him think about what they were going to have and look out on the river. When Carlson shot Candy’s dog it made Candy think. He realized that he should have done it himself because it was his dog not Carlsons. Steinbeck had wrote “Candy turned over and looked for a moment at the gun before he turned back to the wall again” (53). This foreshadowing helped me realize that George had done the right thing because that was his best friend. If he didn't do it himself he would have regretted it like Candy. It is his responsibility to do it because if he wouldn't have done it he would be in pain like Candy
