Of Mice and Men teaches a grim lesson about the nature of human existence. Even though this book was published in the 1930s, most of its moral values still apply to the modern society of the 21st century. Author John Steinbeck sends a message to students to be strong when faced with peer pressure and that while the human race can be barbaric and predatory, they must endure, all the while armed with good friends and emotional strength. To prove this, we must look at the characters of this story. Many characters in this novella feel so isolated, they seek to destroy others weaker than themselves for power.
