George never cared about Lennie. He was a burden, a nuisance. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Lennie kills Curley’s wife. With this happening Curley wants to kill Lennie out of revenge and hatred cause earlier in the book, Lennie destroyed Curley's hand. So to save Lennie, George sweet talks Lennie to stay turned around long enough so George can get the gun out of Lennie's possession and shoot him in the back of the head. This novel shows that mercy killing, the act of putting a person or an animal out of its misery, is okay in times of distress. George’s killing of Lennie was right . After Lennie kills Curley's wife, George knows Curley will want revenge because now not only has Lennie manhandled Curley
