The only two people in the novel who are not lonely are George, and Lennie, because they have each other. George and Lennie have a special relationship that not many people do not have. George does not have to take care of Lennie, but he chooses too. George says, "I could get along so easy and so nice of I didn't have you on my tail. I could live so easy and maybe have a girl."The only reason George stays with Lennie is because, he does not think Lennie will survive on his own without him, and George does not want to be all alone either. If Lennie was alone he would most likely had no hope. George is the one that gives Lennie hope for a better future. George says “We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us. If them other guys gets in jail they can rot for all anybody cares.”
George, and Lennie talk about buying their own house and owning their own farm. A few of the other workers that are working with at the ranch hear them talking and want in on the plan too. Even though the fate of buying their own ranch was unknown with everything factoring in including obstacles they would have to overcome, just the idea of the ranch is doomed. George and Lennie were very passionate about their work because in the back of their minds they thought just maybe one day they could own their own
