All humans have someone in their lives that they need and if they don’t, they are in need of someone. George and Lennie have a relationship like no other. Romeo and Juliet have a strong relationship, but nothing close to George and Lennie. The book “Romeo and Juliet,” by William Shakespeare, takes place in a town named Verona. Where a feud between the Montagues and Capulets takes place that has been going on for centuries. The families despise each other. Conflict occurs when Romeo and Juliet meet and fall in love at first sight at Capulet's party. George is like a father, and Lennie is like a son. An example of this is when George is explaining to Slim about how George and Lennie know each other. He says, "When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin'. Got kinda used to each other after a little while." (Steinbeck 40). This displays that after Lennie’s aunt died, he had nobody left in his family, so George took care of him and got used to him. George takes care of him not only because he’s responsible for him, but also because he loves him. Another supporting reason is that Lennie always gets worried when George isn't around, as if he is a little kid worried about where his mom or dad is, but that’s because George is like Lennie’s father----- he takes care of Lennie. Steinbeck explains how Lennie feels when George isn’t around, "Lennie whined, 'I wisht George was here. I wisht George was here." (Steinbeck 81). This exhibits Lennie needs George to take care of him because without him he wouldn’t be able to make choices. Lennie trusts George with all his heart. This quote shows that Lennie worries because without George he is incapable of making decisions. Also another way George takes care of Lennie is by getting him out of tough situations. George says to Lennie, "Well, look. Lennie-----if you jus' happen to get in trouble like you always done before, I …show more content…
George says to the boss when talking about Lennie, "I told his old lady I'd take care of him.” (Steinbeck 22). This shows they have known each other for a long time because he offered to take care of Lennie. This also shows that Lennie’s “old lady” probably couldn’t take care of him anymore so George offered to take care of him. We know this happened a long time ago because George and Lennie are really close. Another supporting point is when George says to Slim, "Course he ain't mean. But he gets in trouble alla time because he's so Goddamn dumb. Like what happened in Weed------" (Steinbeck 41). This shows that they have known each other for a long time because they were in Weed together. George knows all about Lennie and all the trouble he gets into because he has known Lennie for a long time. George tells Slim old stories about him and Lennie and says, "I used to have a hell of a lot of fun with 'im. Used to play jokes on 'im 'cause he was too dumb to take care of 'imself." (Steinbeck 40). This shows that George has known Lennie for a long time because he's telling stories about what he used to do to Lennie a long time ago. George and Lennie have been together for a long time, a lot longer than 24 hours like Romeo and Juliet. George and Lennie have been with each other since they were growing up and they’ve got used to always

Steinbeck explains to the reader that George and Lennie have been through everything together and describes how George would never leave Lennie. Some of George’s conflicts are internal, while others are external. Although George faces many struggles he always seems to be able to think of a solution. After the death of Lennie’s aunt Clara, George knew that he would have to take on the responsibility of taking care of Lennie. This part of the book also is what made me think that George is more of a father to Lennie than he is a friend. I think this because George does not always talk to and treat Lennie like a friend should to another friend. “I was jus’ fooling Lennie. Cause I want you to stay with me.”…

They are men who only have each other. Neither of their families are living or known to be alive. Early in the book, Lennie talked about leaving George and George replied, “Your Aunt Clara wouldn’t like you running off by yourself, even if she is dead” (Steinbeck 7). George enjoys the company of Lennie and he also realizes that Lennie can’t survive without him. With Lennie styled as a pet in the book, an assumption can be made that Lennie needs George and is helpless on his own.…

In the novella, Of Mice and Men I believe that George was a good friend to Lennie. Friendship is when you are by someone's side, through thick and thin. George and Lennie were good examples of friendship because they were always by each others side, even though they may not have gotten along at times. Unfortunately, Lennie isn't so bright, so George has taken on the role of not only being his companion but his caretaker as well. In the novella George and Lennie have gotten into trouble a number of times, but this one time may or may not have depicted whether he was a good friend or not.…
