Of Mice & Men Essay What is a true friendship? The story “Of Mice & Men” by John Steinbeck is about two very different guys named George and Lennie. George and Lennie are best friends that have a dream of getting their own farm, so they search for work in California. Lennie has a disability therefore, making it harder to reach their dream. Through all the challenges that they face along the way, George stays a true friend from cover to cover of the book. A true friendship is where someone always has your back, cares for you, and where you’ll do almost anything to make each other happy under all circumstances. Lennie ended up killing Curley’s wife after his hand got stuck in her hair, and she started to scream so, when he tried to silence her screams, he ended up breaking her neck. When George found Curley’s wife dead with Candy he said,”Lennie never done it in meanness, all the time he done bad things, but never done one of ‘em mean.” Lennie has done things in the past that have been really bad, so thing is nothing new to George. For examples George says,”I want you to stay with me, Lennie. Jesus Christ, somebody’d shoot you for a coyote if you was by yourself. No, you stay with me. Your Aunt Clara wouldn’t like you running off by yourself, even if she is dead.” Lennie has a disability, so at sometimes he needs George to care for him and help him. Without George caring for him, he probably wouldn’t survive. With Lennie having a disability, he has the mind of a child and doesn’t understand things. Like for him he may see something as right, when a normal person would see it as completely wrong. For example, when he was petting the girls dress, he was just doing it because it felt soft. The girl felt uncomfortable and took it the wrong way. Without George, Lennie would be like a lost puppy in the real world and he probably couldn’t
