Comparing things is something we do in everyday life. We compare things such as cars to work out which is the best to buy, you can also compare people like who is better for the job might compare subjects to see which one you will enjoy and do well at also in school you .Films ‘Rainman’ and ‘Of Mice and Men’, present many similarities and differences within the core narrative elements such as plot, characters and themes. ‘Rainman’ is a film made in 1988, directed by Barry Levinson and written by Barry Morrow and Ronald Bass. ‘Of Mice and Men’ is a film made in 1992, based on John Steinbeck's novella of the same name. Directed and produced by Gary Sinise.

Rainman included these themes by showing how Charlies and Raymond’s relationship builds over the week they spend together, Charlie had to make a sacrifice when he let the man take him back to the home he was in this was really hard for Charlie as he build a really good friendship with Raymond and wanted him to stay with him. George and Lennie’s friendship was already stable at the start of the film so we were not able to see it develop, but they mentioned how George was taking advantage of Lennie by showing people how he would do as he said. This stoped when George told Lennie to jump in a river Lennie did he could not swim and almost died from then on George said that he would care for Lennie and look after him. George had to make the huge sacrifice to shot Lennie this was a massive sacrifice for George as he lost his best friend and in this time it was rare to stay with one person for a long time as people would move from job to job. I think that the main theme in both texts is education on mental illness it shows that even though people act different then you don’t mean that they don’t have feelings and know what they want. In the time that both of the films were made there was a stigma around disabilities and I think these films were trying to break that stigma and change the way people

George is regarded as a leader and paternal figure towards Lennie who is there to guide and protect him with his moral power. In the line: ‘they had walked in single file down the path”, we can see that Lennie is behind George following like a father and son. The reason I think that Steinbeck has used the phrase ‘single file’ is to create a visual image in the reader’s mind as they read to help them immediately imagine and have the precise perception of how the relationship between George and Lennie works. George was always the one in front who wanted to protect him and wants to be in control in other words: the leader, and Lennie: the follower. Additionally this signifies an unbalanced friendship, the opposite of what was mentioned in the…

The 1992 movie Of Mice and Men, directed by Gary Sinise, contains several instances in which it diverges from John Steinbeck’s original, 1937 novella. The first difference is the way in which the two works convey their stories’ exposition. Steinbeck's novella begins when Lennie and George arrive at a clearing by the Salinas River. The characters remain a mystery until, through hearing the two men speak, it is revealed who they are, what they have done, and where they are headed. In contrast, Sinise’s interpretation begins with the incident in Weed and follows Lennie and George’s escape and journey to their new job in Soledad.…

When someone less fortunate or with things that hold them back come into your life it’s how you react to them that shows your true personality, not how you interact with someone better than you. In “Of mice and men” Steinbeck, the author, uses this form of indirect characterization very often, generally dealing with Lennie. A main character in the novella, who suffers from a mental handicap. In the book Of Mice & Men, written by John Steinbeck, the novel concludes by one of the main characters, George, killing his best friend and counterpart, Lennie, after Lennie accidentally kills a young woman. I believe that George was justified in his decision to kill Lennie. Lennie was a character who caused harm and destruction throughout the book, despite not meaning to. He also prevented George from living his life because of the way George had to take care of him and nurture him, much like a child. Because of his actions in the book, Lennie would’ve been killed in an immoral way if George didn’t kill him himself.…

Overall, the movie, Of Mice and Men, was significantly accurate and precise in the portraying of the book. This movie, directed by Gary Sinise in 1992, takes place mainly in Soledad, California where Lennie and George struggle to survive. The setting of the story takes place in the 1930’s, which is clearly depicted within the movie, especially how much different society was compared to today. However, the actors did not come up to par with expectations of the novel. Out-of-date film techniques were wisefully used to make key scenes in the film appear more dramatic.…
