Of Mice and Men -coursework reflects upon the lives of people just after the wall street collapse in USA. The story is told from the point of view of a third person. Steinbeck uses many different themes to get his message across. I will be looking at the theme dreams and plans. On the other hand Crooks has a very primitive dream which is surviving and all he can do now is to reflect on his childhood. Candy could be considered too old to have any realistic dreams but George and Lennie spark a new light in his life.

I believe that dreams is what motivates all the different characters. Although all characters have different dreams, they are somewhat similar. All dreams include wealth, this is what is called ”The American Dream”. The american dream means that as long as you believe in yourself and work hard you can achieve wealth and move into the middle class or upper class if you were a simple farmer or ranch hand such as George and Lennie. Curley and his dad are both in this class and this is what George and Lennie want to achieve.

In the end no character properly achieves what they want and hope to do with their lives. Lennie´s dreams ends with a simple exit in the form of death. George realized that both him and Lennie would never be able to reach their goals and he knew that Lennie would just get himself into trouble. Georges dream did end there as well because his dream included Lennie but Lennie died. For George it was still possible to achieve what he was always telling Lennie about but i do not think that he did go off to chase this dream but that we will never actually

The movie Of Mice and Men is one of a classic American Literature, written by John Steinbeck during The Great Depression. The story contains a plot that traces a journey of two characters, George and Lennie, who migrates around to look for a job. I personally have read this book few years ago, and I was really interested to read because it involves realism in it. The character George and his friend Lennie had nothing in the world except each other and lived with a dream that one day they will have their own land. The movie was interesting in a way that it tells us a lot on human condition and presents a great theme of isolation, vision of American dream and loss of paradise.…

Fitzgerald proves through these three characters that the American Dream of living a life of happiness for everyone is not one that is achievable. Not only will not everyone be able to obtain an equal level of wealth as the few who have it, but also, those with that wealth will want more. Fitzgerald shows that the reality of “The American Dream” is not only unlikely to happen, but also only a very few will ever achieve the dream. None of these three characters will ever be able to reach “The American Dream” because they will never been satisfied with the lives that they have been given. Through Jay, George, and Tom, Fitzgerald demonstrates the similarities in dreams that people of any social class can have and the unlikely reality of “The American Dream” for people to…

The way Nick helps is that he feeds him and he helps him get out of trouble, “Lennie-if you jus’ happen to get in trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here an’ hide in the brush...till I come for you”(Steinbeck 62). It would be impractical for someone to achieve a dream they are constantly getting in trouble and taking the blame for it. Without George, Lennie would have been dead by that time. George could achieve his dream if he were to leave Lennie and just work for himself, but Lennie is what motivated George to achieve the dream.…
