Lennie’s caretaker, George, often gets him out of all the conflicts he is in. While with George by the stream, the two have a dream. A dream to own their own farm with a couple of acres, so the two can be independent and work for themselves. George tells Lennie, “When we get the couple of acres I can let you tend the rabbits all right” (15). This is important to Lennie, because he likes to pet soft things, and he will be able to care for the rabbits. After all, Lennie being mentally handicap, he was not capable of realizing his strength which had an effect on their dream. One afternoon, Curley’s wife approaches Lennie while in the barn, and tries to communicate with him. Curley’s wife gets comfortable with Lennie , unaware of him being mentally handicap, and allows him to pet her hair. Once she told him to stop, he held on to her hair even tighter. Lennie was not aware of the proper reaction. Lennie told Curley’s wife, “Don’t you go yellin’, he said, and he shook her; and her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck” (91). Lennie did not understand how strong he was, and did not understand right from wrong. Relating back to Lennie’s dream, George also had a
