Of Mice and Men and The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian have a comparable similarity in the two novels. There are lots of themes you can pull out of both novels, but one that can be compared is companionship. In both books there are two main characters that are best friends. In P.T.I. there is Junior and Rowdy, and in O.M.M. there is Lennie and George. These two friendships are alike in a lot of ways, but also have some different things about their relationships too. In P.T.I. Junior and Rowdy have some conflict causing them to break up for a little bit as friends. Junior goes school on the reservation with Rowdy, but doesn’t like the school at all. Junior moves schools to a place where he can get a better education at. The thing is he goes to a school where all white rich people go to and Rowdy isn’t very happy about this. He calls Junior a traditor for what he has done. Junior gets in an argument talking to Rowdy after he moved schools and says, “Bang! Rowdy punched me.”(Alexie 52). Rowdy and Junior were no longer friends after he punched him, and it was pretty clear. Junior is much stronger that Junior so he didn’t do anything about it. This the complete opposite of Lennie and George 's relationship. There was numerous times when Lennie would do something bad or do something that would irritate George, but he wouldn’t do anything about it. He knew that he couldn’t afford to lose Lennie because that was all he’s got. An example would be when Lennie made George mad and he told him, “I was just foolin’, Lennie. ‘Cause I want you to stay with me”(Steinbeck 13). Even though Lennie would make George mad he still wouldn’t leave him. Unlike when Rowdy gets mad and Junior he just punches him and they aren’t friends anymore. This is what separates Lennie and George’s relationship compared to Junior and

Many novels and books can look to be compared to each other with simple comparisons, but can actually still be completely different once they are looked into further. In the film Rain Man, directed by Barry Levinson and written by Barry Morrow and Ronald Bass, and the novel, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, share many comparisons, but the comparisons themselves are too different to see an eye to eye overlapping comparison. Because of Lennie’s disability, George could not always treat him as a friend, but sometimes more as a child.
