An actor walks up to her one day and offers her a chance to be a star leaving her to think how she could be “in the movies, an’ [have] nice clothes” (89) and one day having the opportunity to “speak in the radio”(89). Curley's wife dreams of the day she can live in luxury, have the ability to star in a cinema, and make something of herself. She has the chance of talking and having thousands of people listen, she can become a world renowned speaker and host which is all she's ever wanted. While curley's wife's dream is to have money and glory; crooks simply wants a companion to talk to because he's lonely and excluded. Lennie encounters Crooks in his room where they discuss how “a guy needs somebody-to be near him”(72) and it doesn't matter to him if the person “[doesn't] hear or understand”(71). Crooks feels that it's a necessity for a person to have a friend and someone to consult with, someone he could talk to. Crooks dream was to have soulmate, to him it doesn't matter if that person is dumb or even deaf as long as they are present that's all it takes. After she ran away from home Curleys wife gets married she is haunted with the memory that she” coulda made somethin’ of [herself]”(88) but since the time she got married she “never get[s] to talk to nobody” (86). The reason that she could not pursue her dreams of screenplay was because her marrige did not permit her to . Since she was now a married women she thought that she would become free if she ran away from home and got married but her marrige in fact put her in a situation where she couldnt even talk to the people around her because she was the wife of the bosses son no one pays attention to her. On the other hand Crooks was being excluded from society because of the color of his skin not because he was the wife of the boses son. While the men would gather and play cards they insisted that Crooks didn't “ play because he's black” (68) and they “didn't tell [anybody] but crooks”(83). While the workers would sit around playing cards they would not let Crooks play with them because of his different skin color. They don't even acknowledge him when he's around and act as if he is a nobody who has no value to them as if he is an object not a human being. Curley's wife didn't follow her dream because of her husband as opposed to Crooks didn't follow his dreams because his skin
