Loss of Paradise
There are many different opinions on failed dreams and on whether good can come out of it or not. Some people tend to think that if you fail at something it is the end of the world and there is nothing you can do about it, others might think that even if you do fail at something, you will always learn something and grow from it. In Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, the recurring theme for the people on the ranch is failed dreams and how people cope and learn from what they have tried to accomplish. Many of them wish they are somewhere else, leading a different lifestyle or having a different job, but somehow find a lesson or reason why they are where they are.

Lennie, who cannot live a normal life due to his mild disability and the lack to control his own strength, wants this dream so he can escape from all the pain that others bring upon him due to his problem.The whole idea behind the farm was a sort of escape from reality, and the bad things that continue to happen every time Lennie and George go somewhere new. Lennie wants to have the farm where he can grow his own food, take care of rabbits, and, as he calls it, “livin’ off da lan’” (Steinbeck 20).
