Heroes are all different kinds of people, they come from all different walks of life, and have various stories. But everyone has their own definition of a hero and how they should be. In literary works, along with the heroes, tragic heroes make appearances. Like in Oedipus Rex by Sophocles and Othello by William Shakespeare. Just like in Greek mythology and Shakespeare, as well as modern-day heroes. Demi Lovato can be one. First of all, the word hero should be defined. A hero is a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character; a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal (“Hero” def. 2). A hero should have certain characteristics and qualifications to be regarded as a hero like courage, determination, focus, dedication, honesty, responsibility, and wisdom.

Oedipus is a tragic hero because he is not perfect, and has tragic flaws. Oedipus is an important and influential king whose tragic flaws are excessive pride, and has errors in judgment. His pride is revealed in his belief that he is greater than the gods, and he is capable of establishing his own destiny apart from the gods' control or help. To explain, Oedipus is given away at birth because of his fate to murder his father and marry his mother. Later on, Oedipus leaves his home in Corinth and kills his real father, without knowing.As well as murdering his father, Oedipus becomes involved in a unintentional incestuous relationship with his mother. Oedipus’s decision to leave Corinth leads to his downfall, because he tries to run away from fate, and instead runs straight for it. Oedipus' pride is revealed when he says, "But I came, Oedipus, who knew nothing, and I stopped her. I solved the riddle by my wit alone" (Oed. exodus. strophe 1. 433-35).
