The story of Oedipus Rex is about how an unfortunate man named Oedipus, who seeks to find his true identity. Creon, a close friend to Oedipus, aids him in his search by requesting help from multiple people, Tiresias is one of them, as well as a Herald from Corinth, and a Shepherd. They tell him that his wife, Jocasta, is his mom and the former king, Laius, who he believes he killed, was his dad. Jocasta finds out about this as well and ended up hanging herself, devastating Oedipus to the point where he stabs out his own eyes. He wants Creon to banish him so he won’t have to be seen by Theban eyes ever again. A primary theme is this play is Oedipus’ responsibilities as a leader may make him a hero, but could severely harm him.
My first supporting reason is Oedipus cares for his people. At the beginning of the play, Oedipus showed that his care for the people was limitless. The people knew about a newly arrived plague and told Oedipus, who stated “I mourn for their lives more than I do my own”(2), letting us know that he cares for his people much more than he does for himself showing a true passion for the …show more content…
That’s a good point. However, Oedipus is not the typical leader. He has his own style and can be ignorant of what he is supposed to do. In conclusion, Oedipus’ responsibilities as a leader may make him a hero,but caused great harm and pain to Oedipus. the evidence suggests that this can be true. What he did made him a hero, but hurt him severely. Everybody in this current age has their own responsibilities. Many people have these jobs and some are heroes, some are just normal people out walking their dog. Point The point being that everybody has their own jobs regardless of how old they are. Everybody has a job, everybody must do it and if ignored, there will be consequences, as expected. Just do your job, and do it
