Oedipus was given away at birth to be killed because of his predestined fate. Laios knew about Oedipus’ fate and the bad outcome he would receive. Laios decides to give Oedipus to the shepherd so that the shepherd would kill Oedipus. The shepherd instead gave Oedipus to Polybos because he did not want to do the deed in killing deed in killing Oedipus. The shepherd said “I did. The messenger said “Polybos was no relation to you,” (1159) the quote is showing how Polybos was not his biological father therefore leading Oedipus to stay away from the wrong person. Staying away from his false parents led Oedipus to kill Laios and marry Jocasta. If Oedipus knew his biological parents he would have stayed away from Laios and Jocasta so that Oedipus could prolong his fate and even put an end to his fate. Instead of staying away from Polybos which led Oedipus to follow his fate. If he would have stayed with Polybos he would have never crossed paths with Laios.
