The father in the story "The Father" is selfish because he only cares about himself and not his family. In the story, there are many occasions in which the father demonstrates his neglect for his family. “He didn't even know what position his own son played or even the name of the team”(Garner, 3). While some fathers don't get too involved with everything their kids do, they should still at least know what team or the position their kid plays in.
