Caesar followed the Cursus Honorum, almost strictly, and began his education studying law and oratory in Rhodes. His first appointment was as one of 15 Pontiff’s in 73BC. He then became Quaestor in Spain in 68BC, curator of the Appian way, and Aedile in 65BC.
Caesar managed to enter the senate in 68BC through his appointment as Quaestor but was immediately met with much contempt from the senate as they were wary of his talents and of his influence by Marius and Cinna as members of the Populares, not of the Optimates and as Suetonius said “There are many Mariuses in this fellow Caesar.”
