I believe that after reading about what Oedipus had to deal with as a leader, then what Creon had to deal with as a leader, that Oedipus was a far better leader because of his temperament, his accountability, and how he had far greater problems compared to Creon.
First we’ll talk about his temperament, I will say that they both had pretty bad tempers in their own way. How they acted on their temperament would be totally different. For example on page 276 beginning on line 380 Oedipus starts losing his temper saying to Tiresias “You, you scum of the earth” then Tiresias calls him out on his anger and finally breaks saying Oedipus is the murderer that he has been searching for. First we’ll talk about Oedipus and what he faced. Oedipus had been having problems since he was born, he was destined to kill his father, he was cast away to a mountain with his legs pinned together. Oedipus found out his prophecy to kill his father and runs away only to end up accidently killing his father on his way to Thebes without knowing that is was him. Oedipus gets to Thebes and a sphinx was plaguing the city with riddles that no one could solve, the duty fell upon creon and he solved the riddle and had rid the city of the sphinx. Oedipus had taken the role of king of thebes and ended up marrying the queen…. Which happened to also be his mom. Another problem, he ended up having 4 kids with his mom. Then Oedipus finds out that he killed his father, with that, he realizes that his wife is also his mother, and jocasta ends up killing herself and then Oedipus gouges his eyes out. So that is a lot of problems to have in especially of that caliber. Now onto Creon who had significantly less problems. Creon assumed the role of king after the war between Polyneices and Eteocles. The only problem that arose while he was in power was that Antigone wanted to bury Polyneices but he had declared that unlawful. So Antigone tried anyway and was sentenced to be buried alive in a tomb. Events happen and people are mad and Creon realizes what he did was wrong. He went to antigone's tomb and she had hung herself. …show more content…
Finally there is all the problems that arose, and i think by far that Oedipus faced much greater challenges and handled them with greater care for the people than
