Nearly all myths and stories, share similar characteristics in the plot. These similarities and the different stages of adventure are identified to be called the “Hero’s Journey.” In the “Odyssey” translated by Robert Fagle, we as readers come upon a character named Odysseus, who experiences the events contained in the “Hero’s Journey.” Odysseus was forced to convert from a peaceful life to the devastating scenes of death in the Trojan War. Although I am only a mere 14 years old, I too have experienced this harsh conversion. Yet, just because my personal strife is nowhere near as severe as Odysseus’ it was still subject to the Hero’s Journey. Though the journey was long and hard, I believe that my exposure to changing schools has taught me to be who I am today.
I was only 9 years old and in the 4th grade, but I vividly remember the day I heard my name called on the loudspeaker. My stomach sank as I sat down. With a vague premonition of what was to come, I slowly remembered my parents talking about the issue here and there. I saw my parents speaking with the principal in his office. I was nervous but excited at the same time. To my surprise, I found my new school to be more fun than expected. I easily made friends and I actually enjoyed my new teacher. I also managed to keep in touch with my old friends as I made new ones. I felt like I was in control of two entirely different worlds. I believe that the skills i’ve gained from this experience will propel me in my future endeavors. I don't plan on doing something I don’t actually enjoy when I move on in life and I hope that my past will provide the needed wisdom. But even though I have one experience with change there will be more to come. I’ve only scratched the surface of my life and there is definitely a bright future ahead. I am constantly looking forward to day when I have learned every necessary skill I need to live happily and
