To end a war that lasts too long, 3,650 days.
Odysseus, King of Ithaca, has caused the fall of Troy,
His wish now is to return to wife, Penelope, and Telemachus, his boy.
Who knew it would take the next ten years to make that journey back,
With obstacles along the way, he fights to stay on track.
Penelope is a loyal wife even though suitors do abound,
They gorge on food and wine and such, since Odysseus is not around.
In number they are one hundred eight,
A nuisance to behold,
They squander all the wealth they see,
How could they be so bold!
Athena is the helpful goddess who comes to Telemachus’ aid,
She sends him off to find his dad in the new ship she has made.

King Menelaus is Telemachus’ next stop to ask for news of dad,
He’s told that Odysseus is still alive, held by Calypso at her pad.
Calypso loves him very much but finally lets Odysseus go,
Poseidon however is mad as heck and shipwrecks the men and leader O.
On Phaeacia Odysseus safely arrives, the only one to survive.
He tells them his story in great detail, so happy to be alive.
He tells about the Lotus-Easters and the Cyclops with one eye,
how his men opened up his bag of winds, causing most of them to die.
The few who are left go to Circe’s home and to pigs they change from wine.
But Odysseus avoids the change to pig and he ends up just fine.
He must go to the Land of the Dead, Circe sends him away at last.
He sees Greek heroes who are dead and his mother who has passed.
The Sirens sing a lovely song, which Odysseus wants to hear,
To avoid temptation he is tied up tight as the music reaches his ears.
Escaping a monster with six ugly heads, the men are still alive,
The next stop is the island of Helios where they finally
