Hour 2

This hero from ancient Greece encountered many temptations, killed monsters, killed hundreds of people, so he can return home to his beloved wife. Who is this man? This man is Odysseus. He is a mythological legend from a story called The Odyssey written by Homer. The three main qualities that best describe Odysseus are curiosity, bravery, and intelligence. First of all, Odysseus is curious. A reason why odysseus is a curious person is because he never seen a cyclops so when he was close to a cave of a cyclops he and his men went to explore the cave. He and his men waited inside the cave to see the cyclops they have never seen before. This clearly shows that he’s a curious man. Another reason that shows Odysseus is a

The first reason why Odysseus is a brave man is because he was able to blind Polyphemus the cyclops. He and his men grabbed a long spear and dug it into the cyclops’ eye. That right there shows bravery because the cyclops could have killed him. The whole reason Odysseus was able to blind the cyclops was because he went up to the Polyphemus and started to talk to him and give him wine. That was a really brave move because he could of at Odysseus just like he ate the rest of his men. Also when Odysseus was sent to the underworld by Circe to meet Tiresias that was very scary and showed bravery because he was able to go there. The reason why it was scary and showed bravery was because he was surrounded by ghost that can do anything to you. Just the thought of a ghost near me would scare me imagine thousands. Odysseus showed lots of bravery but the most that stuck out to me was when he was trying to fight and pass by Scylla. He had a choice to either pass by Charybdis and Scylla. He chose Scylla while knowing some of his men where going to die. They pass by Scylla going fast and Scylla the six headed monster grabbed some of his men and killed them. Odysseus stood on the ship ready to fight Scylla, that shows tremendous …show more content…
The first reason why Odysseus is an intelligent man is because after 10 years of battle between the Romans and Greeks during the Trojan War. Odysseus thought of a smart way to win the war. He used his intelligence and thought of the Trojan Horse. What he did was build a big wooden horse that fit some men. They used it as a shield so when the enemies would shoot arrows it would hit the wooden horse. While hiding under it they where able to go to the enemies wall and kill them. Odysseus thinking of that trick made them win a battle that was going on for 10 years. Him building a horse and winning a war because of that shows lots of intelligence by Odysseus. Another thing Odysseus did that shows his intelligence was the way he was able to survive the cyclops and escape. The smart thing Odysseus did was tell Polyphemus his name was “Nobody”. That was a smart because when Odysseus blinded Polyphemus. Polyphemus was yelling out to his other cyclops “Nobody” is hurting me. If nobody is hurting him then his other cyclops friends are not going to help Polyphemus. That was really smart because it helped Odysseus and his men not get killed by other cyclops. Also Odysseus didn’t kill Polyphemus because he knew if he did then they would be stuck in the cave. The reason why they would be stuck is because Polyphemus is the only one who can move the huge boulder that is covering the exit of the cave so if you kill him then you would never be able to

Another example of this is in the Cyclops. Odysseus was courageous because when the rest of his crew was freaking out and being scared of the Cyclop he was facing the monster to try to make an escape plan. Finally, Odysseus was an effective leader because he was determined. An example of this is when he burned Troy to the ground. Odysseus built a huge horse and got into the city…

Also, he takes Circe’s advice on how to avoid the Sirens which makes him strong willed because Circe tells him to order his men to tie him down and Odysseus is willing to go through that torture. This is why Odysseus is risking his life for his men because if Odysseus was not tied down he would have ended up killing the whole crew by the sounds of the Sirens so he’s taking the risk of being tied. On the island where Polyphemus and the other cyclops lived, Odysseus uses his intelligence while trapped in the cave…

After reading The Odyssey, two main traits that can be used to describe the central character, Odysseus, are clever and arrogant. Throughout the poem, Odysseus continually demonstrates his cleverness in his ability to outsmart his adversaries during his adventures at sea. A perfect example to support this would be when he encounters the cyclops Polyphemus. Odysseus is keenly aware how well he succeeds at being clever which as lead him to become quite arrogant.…

Odysseus has protected his family and the people who stand with him in the ways he knows best, so I believe that in the Odyssey by Homer that the main character Odysseus is a hero even though he had lost his men to the gods and monsters he came in contact with and had lied to his family he had to protect the people he loved from others that want to hurt him thought his loved ones. Odysseus is a hero in my view from the way that he tricks the Cyclops in to believing that his name is Nohbdy instead if Odysseus so when he and his men escape the Cyclops cannot tell who had been there. The reason Odysseus told the Cyclops that his name was Nohbdy was that he knew that if someone would have asked the cyclops who had tricked him and they could be one that would not know that he was alive and might be one of his enemy’s. When he was planning a way to escape eight of his men were eaten by the cyclops from the long wait from the making of the plain but it was one of the sacrifices he had to make for a better out come from them…

Odysseus shows his bravery in many of his actions and also through his dialogue. In “The Land of the Dead,” Odysseus travels to the underworld, so he can receive advice for the prophet, Tiresias. In particular, the text says “Then I addressed the blurred and breathless dead, vowing to slaughter my best heifer for them” (11.584-85). This quote refers to when Odysseus was sacrificing a black lamb and an ewe, so he could speak to the dead spirits. This piece of evidence shows that Odysseus is brave because he journeys to the underworld and talks to a dead man, just so he can get information about his future travel home.…
