Athena, the goddess of wisdom, uses her supernal knowledge to aid Odysseus in his perilous fights against monsters and atrocities, utilizing the skills of wit, strategy, and bravery. In one example of Athena’s aid to her hero-in-need, Odysseus prays, “if but Athena granted what I prayed for...a club, or staff, lay there along the fold-an olive tree, felled green and left to season.” presents Athena bestowing her help to Odysseus, using an olive tree to signify one of her symbols(Homer 764). Athena had never given Odysseus answers but she had guided him to use his brilliant intellect in order to conquer his challenges and obstacles to reach Ithaca, his home. This era in my life where you were just caring for me as a child, I learned gradually that the effort and time you put into caring for was heroic. According to the article “Where I Find My Heroes” by Oliver Stone, he defines, “heroes are everyday, common people...And that, ironically, is heroism: not to be recognized” emphasizing the point that heroes are people who take and execute minor actions for the good without recognition or fame.(Stone 820) Everyone in our modern society doesn’t realize that Stone’s definition of a hero is 100 percent, without a doubt correct because you have impacted my life more than Michael Bublé, more than Ray Lewis, more than the whole entire elite squad of Navy SEALs, by caring and looking after me when I was a little toddler. When I was a kid, my parents would be at work, busy providing for my sister and me by putting food on the table, water to drink, a roof over our heads, and a good Catholic education. While they were working, you sacrificed your time with your friends to become our babysitter. As time evolved, you were more than just a “babysitter”, you acted as my third parent because you weren’t just there to take care of me and help me with my homework, in a generic, boring way. No!
