Both of the heroes face the stage of the Trials, Allies, and Enemies. Odysseus faces various tests such as Poseidon drowning him, but thankfully Odysseus makes friends with a mermaid, Nausicaa, and King Alcinoos. All of them help to bring him home. To illustrate, Odysseus describes his journey to Scheria to King Alcinoos, “There I was stranded for seven long years. Odysseus faced the danger of the villagers wrath as a direct result of murdering all of the suitors who had seeked to court his wife. For instance, Odysseus stated, “Don’t worry, I am ready for them. I have loyal allies.” when discussing the consequences of his actions to his father (Hinds 240). The quote exemplifies the great amount of problems Odysseus must face in order to return peace and prosperity to Ithaca. Specifically, Che Guevara travelled to Congo in 1956 to train rebels in guerilla warfare tactics and to Bolivia in 1966 to try to lead a revolution against the Bolivian government. Odysseus confronts the Supreme Ordeal through violent slaughter of his enemies who had abused his wife when he was gone. As an illustration, Odysseus intimidates the suitors by vocalizing, “You curs! You thought you’d get away with your rapacious ways, consuming my goods, seducing my maids, and courting my wife while I was away at Troy. You thought your king would never come back alive. Now black death will take you all!” (Hinds 213). Odysseus’ conquest is shown through this stage well as he is able to overcome the evil that plagues his family. By the same token, Che Guevara defies his Supreme Ordeal through invading Cuba with his army to end the Batista regime once and for all. For example, Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos enter Havana where they take down the remains of the Batista dictatorship on January 2nd. Che Guevara’s actions depicts his ability to repress evil in order to bring justice to society. Both heroes defeat their enemies through means of violence. However, Che Guevara defeats his enemy through liberating the Cuban people because it was the right thing to do. This is unlike Odysseus, who emerged victorious against his enemies through means of
