Odysseus proves he often possesses supernatural abilities or qualities in the part of the story where the Cyclops had asked what Odysseus's name is. Odysseus sends out 2 men on a mission to find out what race of people were on the island. He tells the men to stay away fro the lotus flower because he knows that all of these men want to go home to their families and that he will tie the men down in order to get them home. “I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under their rowing benches, and called the rest: ‘All hands aboard; come, clear the beach and no one taste the Lotus, or you lose your hope of home” (). Odysseus proves himself to be an epic hero because he has leadership, he makes decision and orders people do it. He shows loyalty towards his men. Odysseus also shows he is strong because he was capable of tying down his men and he is also determined because he does not care what his men say. Similarly, Odysseus proves his worthiness is tested when he tells his men to cover their ears with wax to avoid the sirens who sing a haunting song over the sea. “.. I/ alone should listen to their song. Therefore/ you are to tie me up, tight as a splint,/ erect along the mast, lashed to the mast,/ and if I shout and beg to be untied,/ take more turns of the rope to muffle me” (693-698). Odysseus is telling his men that he should be the only one to listen to the Sirens but the have to tie him up and if he yells to get him out of the ropes they should tighten it. Odysseus had shot the bow and arrow to Antinous, the suitors had gotten mad and were looking or their weapons but did not find them. Odysseus tells them the reasons he fighting them and told them that he was Odysseus. Eurmucys is telling him that Amphinomus is the ring leader so he is the one to blame, for all that has happened. The Suitors offer to pay Odysseus but he refuses because he wants to make them all pay. Eurmacys ends up dying. They then start attacking Odysseus and Odysseus started shooting the suitors causing them to die with every shot he took with the bow and arrow. ““ and Odysseus looked around him, narrow eyed, for any others who had lain hidden while death's black furry passed/ In blood and dust he saw that crowd all fallen, man and many slain./ Think of a catch that fisherman haul into a half-moon bay/ in a fine-meshed net from the whitecaps of the sea:/ how all are poured out on the sand, in throes for the salt sea, twitching their cold lives away in Helios’ fiery air:/ so lay the suitors heaped on one another” (1531-1539).
