Odysseus Role In Homer's Odyssey

Although we don’t encounter Odysseus’s during the first few books, Odysseus changes throughout his journey returning back home. When Odysseus was first introduced, he was very arrogant and even refused to get help from God. After facing the obstacles while coming home, he realized the significance of God, and took Athena’s help to plan his return back home. Rather than rushing home and showing off who he was, he took his steps with patience to not let anything go wrong. His action led him to be gracefully be admired for his intelligence and skills. Just like Odysseus, Telemachus endures a change into manhood as he plans out his own journey to seek for Odysseus. However, she unveiled the work every night so she would never be able to accomplish the task. Her tactic of encouraging the men but not fulfilling the promise shows that she still had the attachment to Odysseus and does not want to betray him. Homer’s depiction of Penelope portrays her as an ideal women and shows that she holds the same attributes as Odysseus. Aside from the characters, the book of Odyssey shows the significance of home. Throughout his journey back home, Odyssey’s comes across many women who he could have lived life with, however he wanted to return back to his wife and son. Ithaca symbolizes home, and the end of journey for Odysseus. It is important because no matter how long one stays away from home, they can never endure the same feelings as they might when they return to their home. Because Ithaca was invaded by the suitors, Odysseus and Telemachus plan an attack to get rid of the suitors and taking control over Ithaca back again. His inner will to return home led Odysseus to win among every fight, thus gaining his power over his homeland,
