Odysseus Relationships In Homer's The Odyssey

One of the best relationships you have are the ones at home with your family. These relationships you can never forget and can last a lifetime. In the book The Odyssey, Odysseus struggles for ten years to come home to his family after the Trojan War. At home, in Ithaca, he has a wife, Penelope, and a son, Telemachus that he loves dearly. He is always eager to find some way to get closer and closer to his home. Odysseus’s courage about coming home reveals that he has a strong relationship with his family.

First of all, Odysseus trusts the gods that hopefully will lead him home. “Zeus tell Hermes to go to Calypso's Island to start Odysseus on his journey homeward” (Homer 76). If he was not eager about coming home, he wouldn’t have prayed to the gods for help. If Odysseus didn’t have courage he still could have been stuck on the island. Telemachus was worried about Odysseus, so he went to other lands looking for information about him with the help from Athena.

“Penelope keeps on weaving everyday and takes it out at night while weeping for Odysseus and she knows he is out there somewhere’’ (Homer 11). Odysseus has a healthy, strong bond with his family. Odysseus has a loving and caring family that want him to come home. Being away for a long time, is making his bond with his family even more stronger than
