Despite the dramatic differences between Odysseus’ ravaging journey and my mundane journey by comparison, similarities in theme manifest themselves within both journeys; although, Odysseus’ hardships, depicted through an epic poem during 11th century BC in Greece, The Odyssey of Homer, occur centuries before my time, yet contains a fundamental resemblance. Obstacles impeding Odysseus’ odyssey back home to his original lifestyle reflect the struggles of my journey to discover my lifestyle (what I desire to pursue in college). Along with obstacles, monsters block our journey and must be defeated or bypassed to continue forward. Another hindrance would be temptations that attempt to lure Odysseus and me from our original intents and goals. The hardships that we individually

Circe, a goddess and another one of Odysseus’ lovers, entices Odysseus to remain on her island amidst the pleasures she can offer him and his crew. The temptation gripped Odysseus and his men for a year before the continuation of their journey had to continue; the men spurred Odysseus, “‘Wake from your trance, remember your own land…reach your high-walled house…’” Thus, Odysseus and his men escaped the sweet temptation of Circe’s island. In my scenario, I must resist the temptation of laziness and the easier path. Taking the advanced classes applies more strain and work, which makes it hard to pick while there is the option of normal classes aligned with easier work. In this moment, the easier classes seem appealing, but if I were to take these classes, in hindsight, it would be a damaging choice. By choosing the advanced and RCI classes, I set myself up in the future for a significantly more successful future. Though it may be difficult to foresee that future, I must not give in to the temptation of a lighter workload— even if it is more
