The story opens up with Homer asking a muse to help him tell the story of Odysseus. Odysseus was just in the Trojan War and he has not come home yet and now his wife penelope is worried and their house is full of sutors. Telemachus is trying to find his dad figure in his life but he could not find it so Athena the god of wisdom travels to Ithaca to mentor Telemachus so that he may become the man of the house and set out to look for his father who is said to be dead. Later with the help of Athena, Telemachus was able to kick the sutors out with a court and they paid their price. Next, Telemachus set sail to Pylos and met Nestor, the city’s king, and told him about his dad and he told a story of his companions and Odysseus in the war. In this …show more content…
She later escorted him to town and taught him how to meet the queen and gave him directions. Odysseus came to the shores Island and he was introduced in a strange way as the hero to Princess Nausicaa and she gave him advice to help him with the queen and then he set of. The lesson we are supposed to learn in this is that Heroes don’t have to be big or strong but they can come in many ways and we should realize this when it comes to real life. In my life I have seen heroes that don't necessarily fit the description that we always get but they fit the heart and the definition just as good.Soon Odysseus tells the Phaeacians about his travels and they listen with amusement. He had gotten a ship and a crew and he sets sail to Ismarus the land of the Cicones. Once there, the men plunder the land with greed until the Cicones turn on them losing 6 men per ship. Then a wind sent by Zeus carries them on to the land of the Lotus Eaters. The locals give some fruit to Odysseus’ men but what they don’t know is that the fruit is intoxicating and that it will make them forget everything. So they rowed their boat to an Island of powerful giants where Odysseus’ scouts were dinner and all the boats are destroyed except Odysseus’. Then he sailed to Aeaea where the sorceress Circe lives. A band of Odysseus’ men goes out and they got drugged by circe and they were turned into swine. Odysseus goes to rescue them until hermes tell him to eat a special herb so that he will be safe against her. Then he forced her to let his men go and asks her how to get home and her response was that he has to go to the realm of Hades, the Underworld, and find Tiresias and that he will tell him how to get home. So the next morning they went to the land of the dead and they made a sacrifice to summon the dead. Then Odysseus spoke with Tiresias and he said that he hasn’t got home because poseidon has been punishing him for blinding his son. Next, He says that Odysseus will not make it home and to not touch the sheep of the sun god.
