Odysseus’ Loyalty

Odysseus, the main character in the book The Odyssey written by Homer, goes through many hard parts in a journey and survives them. Odysseus stays in many places in the Odyssey, such as Calypso's’ Island, which tests his strength and patience. Odysseus also stayed at many other places, for very long amounts of time. During Odysseus’ journey there are many cases where Odysseus’ loyalty is tested. Odysseus could be considered both loyal and disloyal in different cases. Odysseus was tested many times for loyalty, and to the Greeks he was loyal because he came back to his wife Penelope and misses his wife while being on the journey. On the other hand, In today’s standards Odysseus would not be loyal because he cheats on his wife, and flirts with other women. There are many other cases where people are just like Odysseus. Some people can be loyal, but also disloyal. Odysseus was both loyal and disloyal to his wife Penelope in different cases. Odysseus’ loyalty would relate to the real world because many people in the real world are not loyal to their wife/husband, but it depends on the standards. In the real world a husband is thought as loyal if he doesn’t cheat on his wife, and if he does that is considered disloyal. Today, there are many disloyal wives, and husbands, which usually ends in a divorce. Although there are many disloyal couples, there are also very loyal couples who get along well in the real
