It was during a group seminar for The Odyssey that I could no longer stand the confinements of my shell. A group mate dictated everyone’s actions and decried all ideas but her own, creating a toxic environment. She was especially venomous to my suggestions; because I did not think creating a skit delineating Odysseus’s encounter with the Polyphemus was ,”stupid and a ridiculous waste of time,” I began to argue for my case and she eventually gave in, which surprised me considering how intimidating an air she gave off. …show more content…
I know what it’s like being afraid to express things like constructive criticism or a new idea that gambles on favorability so I always make sure to create an environment where everyone is comfortable with voicing their opinion. I have used this democratic method when brainstorming with my school’s Pan Asian Club event committee; because of a welcoming environment, the Pan Asian Club will host Teaneck High School’s first Asian Culture Night filled with Filipino Line Dancing, Indian Odissi, Japanese Haiku Poems, and much
