Compassionate leaders inspire people with purpose, hope, optimism and energy because they resonate, empathise and connect. Compassion is very important, especially in this century. Leaders can often become disconnected from people who follow them, which can lead to a downward spiral where they lose sense of the larger purpose. A great leader that has compassion, as you can tell, is Odysseus. However, if you really want to know what it takes to be a good leader then you have to look at the detrimental qualities as well If a leader is close-minded then they are most likely unwilling to change their perspective on anything. This will cause issues with the people they are trying to lead. This is the opposite of a good leader, because a good leader will listen to what someone has to say and will at least take the time to think about it. A leader who permits negative gossip is not a good leader at all. If someone spreads any sort of negative gossip about others then they are sending signals that it's not safe to talk to them. If they are permitting that negative gossip then people can't trust them. People will fear that what they are saying to them might be shared behind their backs. If someone starts making suggestions that you've already eliminated through thoughtful internal deliberations, they won't know that you have already eliminated that idea and they will get angry.
