A surfer; age 22 with the name of Matthew Bryce spent most of his time outdoors in the crystal blue sea, and had been surfing for around 4 years at the time. People often described Matthew as the “extremely lucky one.” Matthew began his day with his usual routine and later found himself all alone in the freezing sea, for 32 hours not expecting to live through the night, till Matthew heard helicopters even then not believing he would make it. Matthew was said to have clenched onto his surfboard and waved it in the`air, later found that night 13 miles off the Scotland sea. Zeus and the gods have paid you.” (Homer 435) The epic story “The Odyssey” written by Homer, a young man with the name of Odysseus and his men decide to go to war, for 10 years. Later on Odysseus and his bad habits continued to curse him and left him doomed for another 10 years. Over the next 10 years he travels to many different islands and encounters more and more creatures, from Lotus eaters, cyclops, the dead, the sirens, Scylla, Charybdis, and Helios. Odysseus was very smart meaning he thought of plans right off the bat, and as well as having the last word, which in most cases didn't do him well. After being trapped in a cave with a Cyclops, and many men eaten, they decide to make a sharp staff and stab the Cyclops eye while sleeping, and later on decide to escape the furious blind Cyclop, by tying themselves to sheep. After the pain of losing his men, and finally back on track in the sea Odysseus cries out as the last word making sure the Cyclops knew he had left. “Now when I cupped my hands, I heard the crew in low voices protesting: God Sake captain! Why bait the beast again? Let him alone!” (homer 445-440) even after his crew scream in pain Odysseus continues to make the Cyclops mad.. “Keep Ithaka always in your mind. Arriving there is what you're designed for, but do not hurry the journey at all. Better if its last years, so you are old by the time you reach the island, wealthy with all you have gained on Ithaka to make you rich.” (Cavafy 5) To me this piece of evidence is very strong and powerful. Ithaka meaning life, to always have this positive mindset about life, that each and every person was designed to live here on earth, and you shouldn't try and rush life even through the tough setbacks. NO matter what, its your choice to make it until the day you become an elder, to the day you reach heaven and done your job here on earth. You become rich in matters of the memories that you gained on earth, that carries with you all through heaven.
