Odysseus Journey Analysis

In every hero's journey, their ordinary selves become extraordinary after they face hardship. In the epic poem, The Odyssey, Homer describes an ordinary man and his crew who goes through a 10-year long journey to reach home while facing many obstacles on the way. One day, a man that goes by the name Odysseus was called upon to go to war called the Trojan War, which lasted 10 brutal years. He then had a plan to build a trojan horse and filled with solders to attack the other side in the night which upset the gods. While Odysseus is trying to get home from a 10-year long journey, he faced many hardships, such as meeting a Cyclopes, who enjoys human flesh, going to the land of the dead, finding out his mother died, and finally returning home …show more content…
After going to the land of the dead, Odysseus and his men go thought a cave, finding out it where sea monster lives, "then Scylla made her strike/ whisking six of [his] best men from the ship/" then "she ate them" as Odysseus "rowed on" leaving "the rocks [cave] behind" barely alive (Homer 810-14, 821-27). This tells us that Odysseus survived, but also overcame his fear of being eaten. This shows that Odysseus did not give up of getting eaten by the sea monsters and was trying to find a way out of the situation. While Elon Musk also proves that he does not give up when “SpaceX and Tesla are both running out of cash” he thought of a plan to save bankruptcy was to “win NASA contrast for 12 flights for $1.6 billion” for his rockets to launch in space (Dodds). This demonstrates Elon Musk is trying to succeed to launch the rockets into space, but did not have the cash to do it, instead he came up with a plan to save the bankruptcy. This show Elon Musk is a true hero because he thought of a plan to save the company instead of trying to give up. Odysseus used his cleverness by escaping the Cyclops while Elon Musk saved his company. Odysseus' and Elon Musk's conflict with grief both shows that they must control their emotions and stay strong. Lastly, Odysseus and Elon Musk both learned that they must overcome their difficulties and must deal with anything that comes in the way. All heroes have always been through the hero's journey cycle to become excellent heroes just as heroes in the modern
