According to Rutger Hauger,”good guy or bad guy, hero or antihero, doesn't matter to me what role I play, only the character has something magical. In the Odyssey, Odysseus tries nothing but to get home to his beloved son and wife, but he faces many challenges along the way.Along the way he is captured by many gods and a nymph. Though Odysseus is a God and has gained the respect for it, he is not a hero. This is because he didn't even save one of his crew members and he doesn't make decisions that ensure everyone's safety.Odysseus shows that he is not fit to be a hero multiple times and throughout the story it doesn't seem to get any better. From the very beginning, he shows that he is not a hero by stealing cattle from Helios. In the story it says,”But not will nor by valor could he save them, for their own recklessness destroyed them all— children and fools, they killed and feasted on the cattle of the Lord Helios, the Sun”. …show more content…
This is a clear sign that he is not a hero and is not only selfish but also very self centered.Odysseus is no hero and shows it when he yells at the cyclops after barely escaping. In book 9 Odysseus had arrived on his third island and he made himself at home in what he thought was a welcoming cave. When the Cyclops returns he unfortunately isn't very welcoming and ends up eating 6 of the 12 men Odysseus had come with. After a little bit of thinking he finds a way to make a spear and stabs it through the cyclops
