Odysseus Is A Hero

Do you think Odysseus is a hero? I do not think he is a hero, but a cold-blooded monster. He knew his men were going to die and did not tell them. He lied, cheated, stole and survived. He lied to his men. He attacked a cyclops in his slumber. He stole the cyclops’ animals.
Odysseus lied to his men about his plans. He made a spear from a piece of wood that he chard in a fire and stabbed a cyclops in the eye while he was sleeping. He lied to the cyclops about his name and tricked him. On page 381 the cyclops says “Nohbdy, Nohbdy’s tricked me, Nohbdy’s ruined me!” Odysseus strapped him men to the bottom of the cyclops’ rams to escape the grasp of the monster.
After escaping the cyclops, he stole his rams as he said on page 382 “With many glances

I think Odysseus is a hero because of these reasons, he is caring about people, he is trust worthy, and he can be protective. First, Odysseus can be caring about other people like his team mates during the time of need Odysseus can save his men’s life sometimes like during the time when he was planning of saving his comrades from the cyclops by stabbing it in the eye with a large sharpen log, just like in the military as the saying goes “no man left behind” or sometimes cops saving people’s lives or paramedics saving injured people. Second, Odysseus is very trust worthy, like all his men trust him mainly because he is a hero but overall, he really is a nice guy, he earned some of their trust by saving their lives or just being there for…

Cyclopes in Ancient Mythology Let’s begin with what these interesting monsters are and where they came from. Cyclopes are generally described as having a single eye and of being large and powerful. In Hesiod’s Theogony, the first three Cyclopes, Thunderer, Lightner, and Whitebolt, were children of Earth and Heaven alongside the Titans and Hekatonkheirs. Hesiod describes them as “like the gods, but with a single eye lay in the middle of their forehead; they had the surname of Circle-eyes because of this once circular eye that lay on their forehead.…

____________________________________ Gautama Buddha once said “A man is not called wise because he talks and talks again; but if he is peaceful, loving, and fearless then he is in truth called wise” Buddha’s thoughts well define Odysseus, the main character in the Greek poem The Odyssey by Homer. Odysseus’ audacity and his fearless-self have kept himself and many of his shipmates alive throughout his voyage back to Ithaca after the War of Troy. Odysseus tricks the Cyclops, Polyphemus, allowing him and his shipmates to safely get out from the island. Upon Odysseus’ arrival to the Cyclops ' cave, he introduced himself, never saying his name, and he begged for help and an extension of hospitality as they were guarded by Zeus, the protector…

I chose Odysseus from “The Odyssey” for my character analysis. One of Odysseus most hero-like experiences was Odysseus’ experience with the Cyclops. Odysseus can be characterized as clever, intelligent, and he is able to come up with different strategies to solve his problems. When Odysseus and his men arrive on land of Cyclopes, they do not realize that they are different from Greek custom and starts eating the meat they find in Cyclopes. This upsets the Cyclops.…

Odysseus says, “’I wanted to see [the Cyclops] and claim the stranger’s gift… So we lit a fire and made our thank-offering, and helped ourselves to as many cheeses as we wanted to eat; then we sat inside till he should come back with his flocks’” (111). Odysseus is impulsive and does not think before he acts. He is very selfish and only wants to see what glory the Cyclops gives him. He expects everyone to bow down to him, let alone know who he is, contrasting Odysseus when he fights the suitors at the end of the story and receives glory from his city. When Polyphemus, the Cyclops who happens to be Poseidon’s son, returns home, he traps Odysseus and his crew in his cave.…
