In chapter two of Lord Of the Flies, Ralph is demanding when he tells the boys, “Listen Everybody. I've got to have time to work things out. I can't decide what to do straight off. If this isn’t an island, we may not be rescued right away, so we’ve got to decide if this is is an island” (Golding 22). He also shows demanding traits when he insists that a fire should be made at all times. Ralph argues with Jack often about keeping the fire going and when the fire goes out, Ralph tries to lay down law but his meeting disintegrates quickly. He does not always consider others before himself. Although, Ralph does not always consider others, he does have some leadership skills. Odysseus is the best example of a hero/leader because he takes own more struggles in his life than Ralph does most of the time. Ralph has more help than Odysseus does. For example, Ralph has all of the boys to help him through each struggling situation he goes through, and Odysseus only has Athena. Although Ralph and Odysseus are both heroic, Odysseus shows more heroic traits than Ralph. Both Golding and Homer present the reader with a version of a hero, but it is obvious that Homer shows more traits of Odysseus being a better hero.
