Odysseus Heroic Qualities

Heroes of epic are often brave and they undertake many challenges to prove themselves as a hero. In the epic The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus relates to an epic hero almost perfectly. Odysseus is the definition of an epic hero because he is a brave, fearless, curious, intelligent, and noble character in the The Odyssey. Odysseus proves himself to be an epic hero in two places. He proved himself in Troy at the Trojan War , and on his long journey home from Troy to Ithaca. He also has to prove himself to his wife Penelope after he gets to Ithaca. Odysseus proves that he is brave in many ways. He had to prove himself to be brave in The Trojan War because if he did not prove himself to his people they would have overthrown him and killed him. Odysseus proved himself very well in The Trojan War we can see that because Odysseus and his men won the The Trojan war. He proves that he is brave because he fought all those men and killed them all of them he shows it in this this quote “ I stormed that place and fought every man that fought” (43). He is intelligent in so many ways. He is showing his intelligence in these ways he puts beeswax in his soldiers ears, he tells his men to hide on the bottom of the cyclops’s sheep because he only feels the bottom of his sheep and so he wouldn't catch them and kill all of them. In this quote Odysseus prove my reason “I carried the wax along the line, and laid it/thick on their ears.” (712-713) that proves my reasons because he was smart to put the beeswax in his soldiers ears. The reason Odysseus put the beeswax in his soldiers ears because the sirens sing songs to get people, soldiers, and even animals to come to them then the kill them and eat them. The author also points this out on page 1057 with this quote “Then slung each man under each middle one/to ride there safely, shielded left and right.”
