In the evening, Odysseus, his men, and the cyclops were eating dinner. The cyclops was curious of Odysseus’ name so he asked him. Odysseus responded, “ My name is nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me nohbdy”(Homer 9. 274-275). In this sentence, the author spelled ‘nobody’ as ‘nohbdy’. He did this to make it sound like nobody when he is talking to the cyclops. Odysseus is using the habit Creating, Imagining, and Innovating because he created a trick against the cyclops. When Odysseus tells the cyclops his name will sound like nobody. When the cyclops talks to other people about Odysseus, they will think he isn’t talking about anyone. The habits were Creating, Imagining, and Innovating, Thinking Flexibly and Striving for Accuracy. Theseus was able to defeat the minotaur by using the horn as a weapon. He did this by Thinking Flexibly. Odysseus was clever and was able to fool the cyclops by using the habit, Creating, Imagining and Innovating. Many people can apply these lessons into their everyday lives. If people are struggling to create something and can’t figure a way out they can think flexibly, like Theseus. When a person wants to achieve a goal they can use the Habit of Mind Striving for Accuracy to achieve the goal. Finally, people can create and imagine whenever they are doing an art project or trying to fool a friend, like Odysseus
