Odysseus Demigod Analysis

Odysseus, from The Odyssey is a mere mortal but many people confuse him with being a demigod. Typically, a demigod is a great war hero and many come to admire him. Odysseus grew up around the influence of the gods. When the gods come down to Earth they make children with mortals, resulting in a half god and half mortal offspring known as a demigod. Most of these demigods contain the powers of their god parents. Such as Perseus, offspring of Poseidon, he was able to control water, much like his father but to a much smaller effect. These powers are never shown by Odysseus, most likely because he doesn’t have any.

Yup, that's it. Although he was a great hero to the greeks and was a great fighter, Odysseus was not a demigod. But, according to the family tree of Odysseus’s past relatives. Odysseus is related Hermes (God of Trade and Messenger of the Gods) and Chione (Goddess of Snow and the North Wind). So, according to this information, Odysseus is the great, great grandson of 2 greek gods. This is where it gets confusing. Odysseus was indeed not a demigod. But, Penelope’s mother was an Oceanid. Which was one of the 3000 daughters and sons of Oceanus. Meaning Penelope was a demigod. Meaning Telemachus was ¼ god.
Summarizing, Odysseus is not a demigod. He is in fact a very courageous mortal. Odysseus was directly related to the gods through Athena, who guided him throughout his life and journeys. He was also recognized with Poseidon but not in the best of ways. Again, most people are brought into thinking that Odysseus is a demigod. But, he isn’t. There is weak evidence stating that his isn’t, but there is even weaker evidence stating he is a demigod. He was living around the time many other heroes and demigods
