Whether it’s actions, thoughts, or appearance, our traits without a doubt affect our lives. In fact, Odysseus, in The Odyssey by Homer, uses his many traits to succeed in many of his challenges. While I may not be as perfect as Odysseus, we are both intelligent and competitive.
Odysseus and I demonstrate intelligence in a variety of ways. Odysseus shows being craftiness times throughout the book and receives what he wants from it every time. First, Odysseus gives a Cyclopes tempered wine that makes the Cyclopes “drunk,” and “hiccuping,” (906). Then shortly after the Cyclopes falls asleep from the wine, Odysseus orders his men to build a huge spear to jab the Cyclopes in the eye, and Odysseus and his men later escape. First of all, Odysseus shows being competitive due to the fact he wants to be the best, at everything. This is shown to be extremely clear when he wants to “fight off Scylla” when she shows (930). He would clearly stand no chance against a six headed, colossal monster. But being so aggressive, Odysseus wants to fight Scylla anyway. Odysseus also shows a love for competing when he not just walks up to his wife, but competes for her in a contest to send “an arrow through iron axe helve sockets,” as well as string a bow. This shows Odysseus is without a doubt competitive if he is going to unneededly compete for his wife. Similar to Odysseus, I am also competitive. One way I inherit this trait is by the fact I hate to lose. Although I may not physically show it much, I absolutely hate to lose and love to win when it comes to me competing against others. I also show a competitive attitude when competing in sports by trying to dominate my opposer or opposers. I will give it my all because of my strong competitive trait, and this is actually a good thing because it pushes me harder. Overall, me and Odysseus are both pretty competitive and while I may have it to a lesser extent, we both love winning and
