Putting all other chapters in the past, I believe that Odysseus acted unheroic in the final 3 chapters of the Odyssey. I think this because Odysseus massacred a lot of young men for a stupid reason. Yes, the suitors lived in Odysseus’ house for three years, slept with his maids, and plotting against his, but was all of this really worth people’s lives? Not killing the suitors is the harder choice, because when you think about it killing someone isn’t actually that hard especially when they’re unarmed. If Odysseus was a real hero he would have given the suitors weapons so that they could fight back and Odysseus shouldn’t have used a god to help him.…

Odysseus was an effective leader for many reasons. First of all, Odysseus was an effective leader because he was intelligent. An example of this is in the Cyclops cave. He figured a way out of the cave and that was to give the Cyclops a lot of wine and made him fall asleep so they could escape. Another way Odysseus was an effective leader because he was courageous.…

Odysseus had proved he was a strong leader when he chose to lose only a few men over losing them all. While visiting an island, a witch named Circe gave him a sound piece of advice while giving him his future: “Hug the cliff of Scylla, take your ship through on a racing stroke. Better than to mourn six men than lose them all, and the ship too. ”…

Odysseus often decides to take actions such as dealing serious damage or death. In many situations, like with the suitors, he kills all of them, just so he can once again be the king. Odysseus was the true villain between Polyphemus and Odysseus because he blinded Polyphemus for his own selfish cause. He also took many other ruthless actions, like ordering his men to sail towards Scylla instead of just deciding that going home was less important than staying alive. If he had decided to stay in safety, his men would have lived and would have been…

In The Odyssey, Homer writes of Odysseus, a good leader. Odysseus does make mistakes, for example when he leaves Ismarus he says, “I sacked the city, killed the men” and then he takes the riches and wives as plunder (9. 46-47). In this situation Odysseus acts similar to a pirate and goes against the Greek value of order. Also, when Eurylochus and the crew asks to land on the island of the Sun God’s cattle Odysseus says, “I’m one against all, the upper hand is yours” even though this island is where Odysseus was told he will have their greatest disaster (12. 322-323). Odysseus giving in leads to the death of his entire crew and ship.…

How could Odysseus be a good leader despite all the faults he has made as a leader ? In my opinion, Odysseus was a very good and courageous person but was NOT a good leader in any way. I know you may be wondering “what proof does she have that Odysseus was a bad leader?” And actually I have quite a few, now let’s get started.…

He also clearly cared for his crew. His arrogance, hypocrisy, and lack of foresight are not excused by these positive qualities. Odysseus time and time again puts his crew in unnecessary danger and questions the fidelity of others when he has been unfaithful. Odysseus is renowned both in ancient Ithaka and today as a hero and great warrior, but the people who worship him as this figure rarely take into account his follies. His crew is dead mostly due to his folly.…

Odysseus showed strong leadership here because he constantly went out of his way to make sure that his men knew what not to do to keep them safe. Although all of Odysseus’s crew ended up dead, Odysseus never gave up on them and always had their best interest at heart. Odysseus was put in tough situations where he had to make tough decisions and do dangerous…

In the epic, The Odyssey written by Homer, the main character Odysseus shows many characteristics of a bad leader. Bad leaders let their arrogance get in the way of protecting their followers. After Odysseus and his crew escape the Cyclops’ cave, he is filled with pride , and becomes very arrogant. Because of this he idiotically shouts “‘Cyclops, if any one asks you who it was that put your eye out and spoiled your beauty, say it was the valiant warrior Odysseus, son of Laertes, who lives in Ithaca’” (Book 9 Homer).…

The Odyssey, written by the epic poet Homer, is a tale of a king named Odysseus. Odysseus is returning home from a long Trojan war, but his journey takes a little longer than expected…like ten years longer. Facing temptation and hardship, this epic poem is a prime example of the struggle between good and evil. Epic heroes are often found in epic poems, and they all have the same qualities that they must live meet to be considered one. While many argue as to whether or not Odysseus is considered an “epic hero”, most come to the conclusion that Odysseus IS a hero, an epic one at that.…

So instead of solving the battle once it for all, as is generally the case with our modern-day heroes such as Batman, in Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, we see Odysseus’ own pride, his ego, fate, Gods all conspiring to worsen his troubles instead of fixing it. For example, in Cyclops’ cave, Odysseus could have escaped without mentioning his name. However after destroying Cyclops eye, he reminds him who is he is incurring the wrath of Cyclops’ father - Poseidon who curses him, causing him to lose all his men and spend additional years and adventure at…

Odysseus's greatest fault was his pride which first gets him in trouble at the beginning of the book. When he refuses to give credit to the Gods after defeating Troy, this angers the Gods which leads to his trip home being extended by almost 20 years. During his journey home, Odysseus encounters many monsters and Gods that teach him a lesson on the sin of pride. The sin of pride leads to many of Odysseus mishaps some of these most significant and humbling misshapes where, when some of his men ran into the lotus eaters, when he encounters the Sirens, and his encounter with Scylla and Charybdis.…
